Bayhill Centre

Bayhill Centre – in the heart of Hemavan

About us

Bayhill Centre is now a 4,000-square-metre retail complex housing everything from a clothes shop and a restaurant to the original grocery store that started it all, ICA Fjällboden.

Today, Nils Vikberg and Grete Tuven are the driving forces behind the Bayhill Centre property, as well as ICA Fjällboden, which has been in the Vikberg family since 1979. At that time, Lars and Lena Vikberg ran the grocery store and, even whilst they owned it, decided to expand and extend the premises to meet the village’s growing needs.

When Nils and Grete took over the running of the shop in 2001, plans for further expansion continued, and these were implemented in 2008. At the same time, however, the owners were considering how to create an even greater space for people to gather and shop in Hemavan. Both Nils and Grete viewed the town with great confidence and wanted to offer visitors something more than just a grocery shop. The goal became to build a shopping centre with enough appeal to remain open all year round in a town otherwise very much focused on winter.

The Bayhill Centre was officially opened on a sunny but windy day on 10 July 2013, and for those wondering how it came to be named as such, ‘Bayhill’ is a direct translation of ‘Vikberg’.

The shopping centre in Hemavan provides daily employment for at least 30 people, thanks to the businesses operating under one roof. It could be said that ICA Fjällboden is the cornerstone of what has become a meeting place for visitors, featuring several shops, a café and restaurant, a grocery store and a tobacconist. Bayhill Centre welcomes hungry and shop-hungry visitors every day, all year round.

In 2017, the Bayhill Centre shopping centre will be extended by a further 700 square metres to provide more retail space for Systembolaget, Sportringen and ICA Fjällboden.

Fjällboden is building a more substantial shop focusing on fresh produce and culinary inspiration. Bayhill Kiosk & Tobak now offers soft-serve ice cream and grilled sausages, and the shopping centre has created its own play area. Lennys Lekland opened in 2017 and has proved to be a popular destination.
